In Memoriam Performed at the IETF

Back in January, I got back in touch with an old friend from the UGA Redcoat Band, Adam Frey.  He commissioned me to write a piece of music for his Low Brass ensemble at The University of North Georgia.  Two weeks later, my last grandparent – my grandmother passed.  She was a really special person who engendered a lot of love and friendship within our family.  I was moved to write something in tribute to her and the result was In Memoriam.

Tonight, In Memoriam will be played at the International Euphonium and Tuba Festival. I’m really honored and excited to hear it played here.

In Memoriam is not a mighty symphonic work, rather it’s meant to touch the heart and kindle fond memories.  I think Grandmother would be proud.
